Dr. Lorrie Cranor

Biography

Lorrie Cranor is a Professor in the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, with courtesy appointments at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute. She holds a Doctorate in Engineering Policy from Washington University in St. Louis. As a distinguished researcher, she has previously worked at AT&T Labs Research. Lorrie Cranor's work extensively focuses on the intersection of technology and its societal implications, particularly in cybersecurity and human-computer interaction. She has held various leadership roles including serving on the Board of Directors for organizations such as the Computing Research Association and the Aspen Institute Cybersecurity Group. Her scholarly contributions have led to her involvement in editorial boards for prominent journals, as well as her participation in key conferences like the ACM Conference on Computer Communications Security. Lorrie is also affiliated with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) where she serves as Associate Laboratory Director for Energy Security, Resilience, and Integration, bringing together energy systems and cybersecurity principles. She has received recognition for her work, including the 2025 Stibitz-Wilson Award.
