Dr. Lotte Vogel

Biography

Lotte Vogel is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, where she directs the Vogel Group within the Morphogenesis Differentiation Program. Her lab focuses on the role of serine proteases, particularly matriptase and prostasin, in cancer development and progression. The research aims to understand the regulatory mechanisms of matriptase in epithelial-derived cancers, which represent about 90% of all cancers and often display dysregulated expression of matriptase and its inhibitors. The group employs mouse model studies to investigate how high expression of matriptase can lead to malignant tumors and has demonstrated that over-expression of HAI-2 can cause regression in established epithelial-derived tumors. Additionally, Vogel's research includes the proteolytic properties of matriptase variants in relation to congenital ichthyosis, an autosomal recessive skin disorder. By identifying novel inhibitors of matriptase, the lab hopes to develop treatments that effectively target these challenging cancers, paving the way for safer systemic protease inhibitors in cancer therapy.
