Louis-Philippe Marsolais is one of the most active Canadian horn players, having established his presence on stages around the world for the past 15 years. He balances his musical life between solo performances, chamber music, and orchestral work. His solo career launched in 2005 when he won three prizes at the prestigious ARD competition in Munich, adding to a long list of awards from international competitions in Geneva, Trévoux, and Rovereto. Since then, he has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras in Canada, the United States, and across Europe. Louis-Philippe has been the solo horn player for the Orchestre Métropolitain since 2009 and frequently collaborates with Les Violons du Roy and the Orchestre de chambre Musici de Montréal. He is also active as a chamber musician, being a member of the wind quintet Pentaèdre since 2003, performing throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. His numerous recordings, both as a solo artist and in chamber music or orchestral settings, have received critical acclaim and numerous awards. His latest album dedicated to Mozart's Concertos won an Opus award last year for classical music album of the year, presented by the Conseil Québécois de la Musique. A curious musician, he is interested in all musical eras, and his expertise in baroque horn and natural horn has led him to perform with several early music ensembles. His virtuosity on modern horn has inspired many composers to write works that he has premiered.
