Biography

Louis Adam is a full professor at Laval University's School of Actuarial Science. He graduated in Actuarial Science from Université Laval in 1981 and has since become a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) and the Society of Actuaries (SOA). Joining as a professor in 1993, he was the director of the undergraduate actuarial program between 2002 and 2010. His teaching focuses on undergraduate and graduate courses, specifically in pension plans, pension plan costing, funding, financial mathematics, and actuarial mathematics. His research interests include the mortality of Canadian retirees and pension plan financing and risk modeling. Notably, he was involved in the creation of the first-ever mortality table for Canadian retirees published by the CIA in 2014. Louis has served on multiple committees and boards throughout his career, including a tenure on the CIA Board of Directors, and has contributed significantly to discussions regarding the actuarial valuation of the Quebec Pension Plan. He was honored with the Gold Palm in 2018 for his volunteer service with the ICA and has facilitated numerous workshops on retirement preparation for professors since 2012.
