Biography

Louis Christofides is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Guelph and the University of Cyprus. He has served as Chair of the Department of Economics at both institutions and has also held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management at the University of Cyprus. Christofides completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Essex, UK, earning a BA Honours in Economics in 1968. He continued his education at the University of Essex for his MA in Economics in 1969 and obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of British Columbia, Canada, in 1973. His research includes a wide range of topics such as wage employment determination, incidence and intensity of wage indexation, contract duration, unemployment insurance, job duration, and the participation in social assistance programs. He has also examined labor supply, low-inflation wage adjustment, real and nominal wage rigidity measurement, language proficiency in the labor market, and economic education.
