Biography

Louis Kaplow is the Finn M. W. Caspersen Household International Professor at Harvard Law School and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. With a Ph.D. in economics and a J.D. from Harvard University, he has published widely in the fields of taxation, public economics, antitrust, law and economics, and welfare economics. His notable works include "Antitrust: Rethinking Merger Analysis," and "Fairness versus Welfare" (co-authored with Steven Shavell), demonstrating his analytical approach to the intersection of economics, moral philosophy, and law. Kaplow serves on the editorial boards of many academic journals and works as a legal consultant for governmental and private entities. He has been recognized for his scholarship with lifetime achievement awards from the National Tax Association and the American Law and Economics Association.
