Biography

Louis Nolte is a Teaching Fellow in Sports Policy Management at the University of Edinburgh. His background in sports began with judo, where he competed internationally, representing South Africa at various championships. Louis holds honors degrees in Psychology and Human Movement Sciences from the University of Pretoria, a Master’s in Sport Science, and a Doctorate in Sport Management from the University of Johannesburg. He has lectured at several institutions, including the University of Johannesburg and Tshwane University of Technology, prior to his current appointment in 2020. Currently, he serves as the Education Director for the Scottish Centre of Olympic Research Education (SCORE) and as Programme Director for the MSc in Sport Policy, Management, and International Development. His research interests focus on elite sports systems, long-term athlete development, and the management of sports in the Global South, drawing on historical developments in judo in small states.
