Biography

Louis Philipson is the James C. Tyree Professor of Diabetes Research and Care Medicine at the University of Chicago, with expertise in clinical interests that include diabetes in pregnancy, diabetes prevention, hypoglycemia, and pancreatic islet transplant. He focuses on various types of diabetes, including type 1, type 2, monogenic diabetes, and complications associated with atypical forms of diabetes. His clinic utilizes technology-driven solutions, such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors, and actively incorporates telemedicine applications. Philipson has served as a past president of the American Diabetes Association and has been recognized as a Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. His research is centered on monogenic diabetes, leading efforts in diagnosing and managing this rare condition. He has also formed the Predict Consortium aiming to improve the diagnosis and treatment of monogenic diabetes through cutting-edge research initiatives.
