Dr. Louise Berglund

Biography

Louise Berglund is an Associate Professor in History at Uppsala University, with a focus on Medieval history. She earned her PhD in History from Uppsala University in 2003 and became an Associate Professor at Örebro University in 2014. Since July 1, 2017, she has been a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at Uppsala University’s Department of History. Her research primarily involves late medieval political and religious culture, particularly concerning gender dynamics and authority. Berglund is currently leading a research project on the inclusion of women in historical writing from 2025 to 2027, examining the intersections of democracy and gender equality since the mid-nineteenth century. She has contributed to various academic textbooks and has experience supervising graduate students on diverse historical topics. Her teaching has spanned several universities, including Uppsala and Örebro, and she has engaged in various international research projects in places such as the Saxo Institute in Copenhagen and the Swedish Institute in Paris.
