Biography

Dr. Louise Causer is a Senior Lecturer and medical epidemiologist at the Kirby Institute, University of New South Wales, Australia. She leads the Decentralised Diagnostics Implementation Research Group and serves as a member of the Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Research Education Committee. Her expertise lies in applied epidemiology, implementation evaluations, and health services translational research for infectious diseases. Over the past decade, Dr. Causer has focused on co-designing multidisciplinary research to evaluate and scale interventions aiming to improve the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in rural and remote Australia. She has integrated novel diagnostic technologies for the rapid detection of infectious diseases in primary care settings, including sexually transmissible infections and COVID-19. Dr. Causer has successfully led research attracting over AUD 13.5 million and authored more than 55 peer-reviewed publications. She currently leads the STI component of the Nations Infectious Diseases Point-of-Care Testing Program, working nationally with over 75 rural and remote clinics. Before joining UNSW, she served in various prestigious roles, including an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the CDC and as a medical officer in the WHO's polio eradication program. Dr. Causer has a long-standing passion for conducting multidisciplinary research to enhance the control of infectious diseases, particularly focusing on STIs in remote communities in the Asia-Pacific region.
