Louise Donnelly is a Professor of Respiratory Cell Biology at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London. She obtained a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Bath followed by a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Cardiff. After completing her postdoctoral work in cell signaling at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, now part of Imperial College London, she joined the NHLI. Since 1995, she has focused her research on respiratory cell biology with a particular interest in the cellular profile of inflammatory lung diseases, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Her research investigates inflammatory cells and their alterations in disease states, with the aim of discovering novel therapeutic strategies. She has established several human primary cell systems to explore the mechanisms of aberrant inflammation and cellular senescence. Professor Donnelly has published extensively and presented her work both nationally and internationally, currently serving as the Deputy Editor of the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology. She holds the position of Director of the iBSc in Translational Respiratory Medicine and is involved in respiratory teaching in the undergraduate MBBS course. Her contributions to research supervision and pastoral care were recognized when she received the Rector's Award in both 2009 and 2012. Additionally, she serves on the committee of the British Association for Lung Research and has previously chaired the BALR, as well as being involved with the British Lung Foundation Scientific Committee.
