Dr. Louise Hawxwell

Biography

Louise Hawxwell has 11 years of experience in Initial Teacher Education (ITE), specializing in primary education. She has taught on both undergraduate and postgraduate programs and has undertaken various roles including module leader, link tutor, and placement lead. Her areas of expertise encompass science education, sustainability education, and outdoor learning within the primary curriculum. Louise is dedicated to providing high-quality learning experiences that support students in their journey to become future primary school teachers. Before her work in ITE, she was a primary school teacher for 11 years in Wigan, Lancashire, where she was responsible for teaching across the primary age range and took on roles such as Science and Religious Education subject lead. In her teaching career, she became a trained Numbers Count Teacher, implementing a maths intervention program for Year 1 children. Her research interests focus on outdoor learning, teacher practices, and practitioner research, particularly self-study methodologies to explore and reflect on educational practices. Her work is influenced by relationality, including posthuman feminist materialist perspectives, and she employs creative and playful methods to engage with more-than-human materialities.
