Louise M. Winn is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences at Queen's University. She completed her PhD in Toxicology from the University of Toronto and has since focused her research on the mechanisms of fetal toxicity linked to environmental exposures. Her work extensively covers the bioactivation of xenobiotics and the resulting oxidative stress that may lead to teratogenesis. Currently, her lab is analyzing the effects of specific xenobiotics, such as benzene and valproic acid, on embryonic signaling pathways and DNA repair mechanisms. Prof. Winn employs both in vivo animal models and cell culture systems to explore the impacts of these compounds on embryonic development and the underlying molecular processes involved. Her selected publications highlight significant findings regarding the influence of maternal exposure to environmental toxins on genetic damage in offspring and the role of oxidative stress in these processes.
