Biography

Lu Wei is a Professor of Chemistry at California Institute of Technology. He is an Investigator at the Heritage Medical Research Institute and a Ronald JoAnn Willens Scholar. Lu received his B.S. from Nanjing University in 2010 and his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2015. He served as an Assistant Professor in Chemistry at Caltech from 2018 to 2025 and is set to become a full Professor in 2025. His research interests lie at the interface of optical spectroscopy and chemical biology, focusing on developing advanced optical microscopy techniques and chemical probes for biophysical applications. Through his research group, he aims to apply new methodologies to understand the dynamic physical and chemical processes occurring in living systems. Lu teaches courses on biophotonics, which cover essential optics and modern optical techniques applicable in molecular spectroscopy and imaging.
