Biography

Luana Russo is an Associate Professor of Political Behavior at Maastricht University, where she currently serves as the Program Director for the BA in European Studies. She obtained her Ph.D. in Political Science in 2011 from Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa, Italy, where her thesis focused on electoral geography. During her doctoral studies, Luana was a visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York, USA, and the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, which broadened her expertise in political behavior research. She has held post-doctoral positions at Sciences-Po Paris and Université Lille 2 in France. Luana's research interests center on elections, political attitudes and behaviors, political psychology, affective polarization, and negative partisanship. She is dedicated to understanding how individuals form and express their political preferences and social identities, particularly in the context of contemporary political polarization. In addition to her research contributions, Luana is actively involved in facilitating and organizing research activities and networks, serving as a member of the ECPR Executive Committee, co-editing the journal "Politics Low Countries," and chairing the ECPR Political Methodology standing group. She has held various management positions, contributed to service roles in academia, and worked to promote excellence and inclusivity in academic governance.
