Biography

After obtaining a doctorate in psychology, Luc Granger spent his entire career at the Université de Montréal. He specializes in treatments for drug users and sexual offenders, conducting numerous cutting-edge research initiatives, playing a key role in the creation of the Centre de recherche en neuropsychologie et cognition (CERNEC), and developing clinical treatment programs for incarcerated aggressors for the Correctional Service of Canada. Granger was closely associated with the inauguration and development of the Portage program, which specifically addresses drug users. He has authored many articles in prestigious scientific journals and co-authored the first three original books published in French in the field of behavioral therapy. Renowned for the rigorous supervision he provided to his students, he participated in about a hundred thesis and dissertation committees and supervised 41 doctorates and 37 masters, making him the most prolific professor in the history of the Department of Psychology. In the early 1960s, as an undergraduate student, he was already responsible for the functioning of experimental psychology laboratories, starting to acquire in-depth knowledge in apparatus construction and programming. He adeptly combined research, teaching, and university administration, serving as the head of the Department of Psychology for nearly 14 years and as vice-dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He also presided over major Canadian scientific and professional psychology organizations, including the Canadian Psychological Association and the Order of Psychologists of Quebec.
