Professor Dr. Luca Modenese

Biography

Luca Modenese is a Senior Lecturer in the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of New South Wales. He holds a prestigious Scientia Fellowship and has a strong background in biomechanics and computational methods. He earned his Mechanical Engineering degree with summa cum laude from the University of Padua in 2008 and completed his PhD at Imperial College London in 2013, focusing on Structural Biomechanics. Afterward, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Griffith University in the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research, where he developed methods to create patient-specific musculoskeletal models. In 2015, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sheffield University and was involved in significant European projects. In 2017, he was awarded an Imperial College Research Fellowship, which focused on optimizing surgical interventions through advanced computational modeling. Dr. Modenese has received multiple awards for his research contributions, including the 2021 Athanasiou ABME Award and recognition as a Publication of the Year winner. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Society of Biomechanics and the Australian New Zealand Orthopaedic Research Society, and he has contributed to numerous research projects and publications in the field of biomechanics.
