Biography

Luca Pattaroni is a Professor of Urban Sociology at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the director of the Laboratory of Urban Sociology (LaSUR). He completed his Master's degree in social sciences at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Ulm/Paris and obtained a joint PhD in Sociology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris and the University of Geneva. He has served as an assistant at the Faculty of Law at the University of Geneva, as a visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York, and has held visiting professorships at the Federal University Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His research focuses on urban studies, addressing the dynamics of housing, public spaces, urban migration, and cultural urban movements. He actively engages in interdisciplinary collaborations with architects and urban planners and has participated in international competitions. Pattaroni is also involved in various public responsibilities, including being appointed to a national think tank and serving as co-founder and president of a cooperative for artists and artisans in Geneva.
