Biography

Luca Sapienza is an Associate Professor of Quantum Engineering at the University of Cambridge. He leads the Integrated Quantum Photonics research group, focusing on the fundamental understanding of quantum optical effects on a chip and the development of quantum nano-photonic devices that integrate single-photon emitters. His research spans areas including electromagnetic simulation, nanofabrication, and optical characterization, employing techniques such as time-resolved micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy at cryogenic temperatures. The device technology he develops is based on III-V, silicon, and nitride hybrid material systems that realize photonic crystal and plasmonic devices including waveguides and optical cavity resonators. Dr. Sapienza has previously held academic positions at the University of Glasgow and the University of Southampton and has been involved in visiting roles at notable institutions such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the USA and the Ecole Normale Superieure de Paris in France. He teaches courses in Quantum Nano-Technologies and Integrated Design Projects and is seeking motivated undergraduate and postgraduate students to join his research group.
