Dr. Lucas Machado

Biography

Lucas Queiroz Machado is a Lecturer in Structural Dynamics at the University of Southampton. His research interests lie in non-destructive testing, material characterization, and dynamics, with a particular focus on ultrasonic data interpretation in inhomogeneous anisotropic materials, often found in complex welds within the nuclear industry. He is currently involved in the iWeld project, which aims to enhance conventional ultrasonic inspection methods to improve characterization and identification techniques deployed in situ. His previous academic background includes earning a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK, where he developed optimization-driven methodologies for designing piezoelectric triboelectric energy harvesters. He also has experience as a Lecturer at Kroton University in Brazil and has a Master's degree in Mechanical Sciences and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Brasilia, which included a period at Auburn University, USA as part of the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program.
