Biography

Dr. Lucia Cevidanes is the Thomas M. Doris Graber Endowed Professor in Dentistry and Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where she has been since July 2011. Before this position, she was a faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics at the UNC School of Dentistry. Dr. Cevidanes completed her specialty training in 1994 and received her PhD in 2003. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Her research interests include 3D imaging and Data Science to solve challenging clinical problems in dentistry, with a particular focus on health issues related to Temporomandibular Joints. She currently investigates biomarkers for arthritis, treatment approaches, and outcomes related to aligner therapy and orthopedic surgical treatment of complex craniofacial anomalies and dentofacial deformities. In addition to her research, Dr. Cevidanes has predoctoral graduate teaching responsibilities and serves as the Predoctoral Orthodontic Clinic Director and course director for 4 predoctoral courses. She sees patients as a faculty associate on Wednesday mornings and as graduate attending faculty on Friday afternoons, as well as leading graduate courses in Cephalometrics and 3D imaging. Dr. Cevidanes has published over 140 scientific papers related to 3D imaging and Data Science, and her work has received multiple awards for its excellence in the field.
