Professor Dr. Lucia Talamini

Biography

Lucia Talamini is a researcher at the University of Amsterdam, focusing on the neurobiological mechanisms underlying memory, particularly in relation to sleep and cognitive disorders. She earned her master's degree in Biology from Leiden University in 1991, focusing on Medical Biology and Neurobiology. Talamini completed her PhD in 2000 at the University of Groningen, where she developed an animal model linking medial temporal lobe (MTL) development to the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. Her research includes investigating the relationship between MTL structure and function through neural network modeling. After a brief stint in pharmaceutical R&D at Johnson & Johnson, she returned to academia, where she has published extensively on topics related to memory and sleep, including the role of neural mechanisms in memory consolidation and emotional regulation. Talamini's research employs a multidisciplinary approach, utilizing modern imaging techniques and computational modeling to explore how sleep affects memory processes.
