Dr. Lucia Zedner

Biography

Lucia Zedner is a Senior Research Fellow in Law at Souls College, University of Oxford, where she is a Professor of Criminal Justice and a member of the Centre for Criminology. She is a Fellow of the British Academy, an Overseas Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law, and an elected Member of Academia Europaea. Zedner completed her DPhil and held a Prize Research Fellowship at Nuffield College, Oxford. She was a Lecturer in Law at the London School of Economics from 1989 to 1994, and served as a Law Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, from 1994 to 2016, becoming a Professor in 2005. She has served on the editorial boards of various journals and is currently associated with several, including Criminal Law Forum and Criminal Law Review. Zedner has held visiting fellowships in Germany, Israel, the United States, and Australia, and has been a Conjoint Professor at the Law Faculty of UNSW, Sydney. She is a serving Commissioner on the Independent Commission on Counter-Terrorism Law and Policy at the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law. Her research interests focus primarily on criminal law and justice, security, counter-terrorism, immigration control, and citizenship. She guides students working in these areas and has published extensively, including recent works on topics such as preventive justice and the changing contours of criminal justice.
