Dr. Lucilla Poston

Biography

Professor Lucilla Poston is a prominent researcher in the field of Maternal and Fetal Health at King's College London. Her research focuses on maternal nutrition, obesity, and gestational diabetes, specifically exploring both short- and long-term health consequences for mothers and children. She has a strong emphasis on pragmatic interventions during pregnancy aimed at improving outcomes for both mothers and children. Professor Poston leads a team that investigates the early life origins of disease using electronic health record data linkages. She is the President of the International Society for Developmental Origins of Health and Disease and has been recognized as a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2017, she was appointed as a NIHR Senior Investigator, a position she achieved through open competition, and she was awarded a CBE for her contributions to women's health. Professor Poston has been featured in the Research.com list of the top 1000 female scientists globally. Her previous roles include serving as the Tommy's Chair in Maternal and Fetal Health and as Director of the Tommy’s Maternal and Fetal Research Unit at St Thomas’ Hospital. Her prolific output has significantly advanced knowledge in her research area, evidenced by numerous peer-reviewed articles on gestational diabetes, maternal obesity, and their effects on offspring health.
