Dr. Lucinda Cole

Biography

Lucinda Cole is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Illinois, where she also serves as the Associate Director of Graduate Studies and Job Placement Officer. Her research interests lie in Seventeenth-Eighteenth-Century British Literature, Animal Studies, Gender Studies, Literature Science, and Environmental Humanities. Through her work over the past decade, Cole has contributed to the emergence of interdisciplinary fields such as Animal Studies, Science Studies, and Food Studies, with a focus on the complexities of environmental challenges. Her book, 'Imperfect Creatures: Vermin, Literature, Sciences Life, 1600-1750', examines the artistic and literary representations of small creatures amidst environmental pressures and food insecurity during that period. Her recent research delves into zoonotic diseases and ecological pressures within historical contexts. Cole has also maintained affiliations with the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment at the University.
