Biography

Lucy Gilbert is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Department of Oncology at McGill University. As the Director of Gynecologic Oncology at McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), she leads a level-IV unit that provides comprehensive gynecological cancer care for the province of Quebec. Dr. Gilbert oversees the Women’s Health Research Unit at MUHC, which emphasizes research that yields immediate practical benefits for women with cancer. Her work is marked by active engagement in multinational clinical trials aimed at developing new precision therapies for gynecologic cancers. A significant focus of Dr. Gilbert's research is early detection of ovarian and uterine cancers, which are highly curable when diagnosed early. To enhance access to care, she initiated a network of satellite clinics known as DOvEE (Diagnosing Ovarian Endometrial Cancers Early), which facilitates rapid investigations for women over 45 exhibiting symptoms related to gynecologic cancers. Her team has pioneered a novel genetic pap-test, DOvEEgene, designed to detect cancers early in women presenting with related symptoms, and they have completed Phase II testing of this innovative test now poised to enter Phase III trials.
