Biography

Lucy joined the University of Southampton as a Lecturer in Criminology in 2023, teaching undergraduate programs focused on violence, gender, victimization, and crime. She is a feminist public scholar committed to radical engaged pedagogic practices. Her research explores violence, gender, sex, and sexuality, particularly in relation to marginalized and stigmatized groups. Her work on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, Home Office, and West Midlands Police, among other sector organizations. Before her current role, Lucy worked with the BBC World Service Trust (now BBC Media Action), cultivating a lifelong interest in how international development intersects with gender and climate (in)justice, as well as the impacts of media messaging on behavior. Lucy is also a published writer in the romance genre under a pen name. She is particularly interested in the changing landscape of sexually explicit media, especially how women interact with pornography and erotica on both personal and societal levels. Her teaching is influenced by cross-cutting, holistic perspectives that address the challenges and opportunities of everyday life.
