Dr. Lucy Steeds

Biography

Lucy Steeds is a writer and teacher at the Edinburgh College of Art, where she serves as a Senior Lecturer and ECA Co-Director of Research Excellence. She has spent over a decade in arts education, previously working at the University of the Arts London as an editor and research mentor. Lucy curates and writes extensively about contemporary art, focusing on themes of exhibition histories and the impact of globalization on artistic practices. Her PhD in cultural history from Goldsmiths College, University of London, laid the groundwork for her academic pursuits. She is the Series Editor for the 'Exhibition Histories' book series, where she has collaborated with multiple international authors, curators, and institutions. Her research interests include the examination of contemporary art's role within ecological frameworks, as well as the evolving definitions and experiences of exhibitions. In addition to her teaching on undergraduate courses, she supervises PhD students exploring eclectic practices in contemporary art. Lucy has contributed to a range of publications that tackle both theoretical and practical aspects of art curation and exhibition.
