Biography

Lucy Yardley has a longstanding interest in empowering patients and communities to take control of their health and treatment. Her research addresses key questions on how to make digital interventions easy to use and as helpful as possible, integrating digital support with self-management in health and healthcare services. Yardley’s work focuses on the development and evaluation of numerous web-based healthcare interventions, funded by £80 million from UK research councils, NIHR, and medical charities in the EC. Her interventions include support for weight management, physical activity, reduction of infection transmission, and self-management of long-term health conditions like cancer, hypertension, diabetes, back pain, and asthma. Yardley pioneered the 'Person-Based Approach' which uses mixed methods in intervention co-production, resulting in effective interventions published in prestigious journals such as The Lancet, BMJ, JAMA, and Annals of Internal Medicine.
