Ludger Klein is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Immunology, Biomedical Center at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. His research focuses on T cell repertoire selection, central T cell tolerance, and regulatory T cells, aiming to elucidate cellular interactions and molecular pathways that orchestrate the generation of a 'useful' T cell repertoire that imprints self-tolerance. Professor Klein employs genetically manipulated mouse models, which allow for the dissection of T cell-intrinsic and -extrinsic determinants shaping the T cell pool during repertoire selection in the thymus. His extensive academic history includes a tenure as Group Leader at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna and postdoctoral research positions at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and the German Cancer Research Institute in Heidelberg. He earned his PhD in Biology from the University of Cologne and DKFZ Heidelberg, under the supervision of Howard Kyewski.
