Biography

Ludwik Fedorko is a practicing anesthesiologist at the Toronto General Hospital within the University Health Network. He holds an appointment as an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Fedorko obtained his MD from Warsaw Medical School in Poland and completed his PhD at Oxford University in the UK, specializing in neuro-respiratory physiology. He joined the faculty of the University of Toronto in 1986, and the Department of Anesthesia at the University Health Network in 1996. His research interests include cardiac and transplant anesthesia, hyperbaric medicine, brainstem and spinal cord respiratory neural networks, and cognitive dysfunction related to cardiac surgery. Dr. Fedorko has developed a patented method for computer-aided medication labeling practices in operating rooms, which is utilized by major providers of electronic health records in Canada. He has also conducted significant clinical trials in hyperbaric oxygen therapy for diabetic patients. In addition to his academic and clinical work, he enjoys deep wreck mixed gas diving in Ontario's Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River.
