Dr. Luis Alameda

Biography

Luis Alameda is a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Consultant Psychiatrist at the South London Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, affiliated with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience at King’s College London. He completed his medical training in psychiatry and psychotherapy across various institutions including the Universities of Sevilla, Lund, and Florence, as well as the Lausanne University Hospital. His research focuses primarily on mental health, emphasizing the relationship between schizophrenia, childhood trauma, and the mechanisms that contribute to psychosis. In 2022, he received the King’s Outstanding Award for his PhD work, which investigated the epigenetic and psychological mechanisms involved in child abuse and psychotic episodes. Alameda has also led the Treatment Early Intervention Psychosis Program in Lausanne, where he examined clinical high-risk populations and promoted data-driven developments in early psychosis intervention. He has received multiple recognitions for his contributions to the field, including the 2019 Research Prize from the European Psychiatric Association and the Young Investigator Award from the Swiss Society of Biological Psychiatry. His publications address crucial topics like the interplay of adversity, neurocognition, and social cognition in functional outcomes for people with psychosis, and he continues to work on early intervention strategies to improve the quality of care for those affected by severe mental health issues.
