Biography

Dr. Luis Fernando Arenas is a Lecturer in Energy Engineering at the University of Southampton, UK. He holds a BSc degree in Chemistry from UAdeC (2010), an MSc degree in Chemical Technology from UAdeC (2013), and a PhD in Electrochemical Engineering from the University of Southampton (2017). Dr. Arenas has expertise in PEM fuel cells and electrochemical hydrogen pumps, having worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton from 2017 to 2019. He has consulted for the chlor-alkali industry and worked on the development of electrodialysis flow batteries in Mexico from 2019 to 2020. He was awarded the Humboldt Research Fellowship to develop organic metal-air flow batteries at Clausthal University of Technology, Germany, from 2021 to 2023. Following this, he is set to become the Research Manager of the ELCAT group at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, from 2023 to 2025. Dr. Arenas is a member of ISE, ECS, SCI, and RSC and serves as the early career representative for the Electrochemical Technology Group of the Society of Chemical Industry (UK). He has received several awards, including the Schwäbisch Gmünd Prize in 2019 and the ISE Travel Award in 2022.
