Biography

Luis Arnes Perez's career has been devoted to the study of pancreatic biology and related disorders. He completed his Ph.D. in Genetics and Cellular Biology at the Autonomous University of Madrid and subsequently joined Dr. Lori Sussel's laboratory at Columbia University to investigate the transcriptional programs that regulate pancreatic lineage specification. His research has highlighted the importance of transcriptional regulators in pancreas development, emphasizing their role in maintaining cellular identity and contributing to disease states. He has been awarded the Berrie Scholar Award from Columbia University and has also received a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to further his research. His work has identified long non-coding RNAs essential for the control of developmental competence in pancreatic lineage differentiation. As an Associate Professor at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Biology at DanStem, University of Copenhagen, he focuses on understanding the non-coding regulation of cellular plasticity and tumor progression in vivo, particularly in the context of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
