Luis Hernandez-Nunez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Stanford University. He leads the Hernandez-Nunez Lab, focusing on the circuit mechanisms underlying heart-brain interactions, particularly how organismal circuits implement multiorgan coordination and feedback control. His academic journey includes postdoctoral training at Harvard University under the mentorship of Florian Engert, supported by the Life Sciences Research Foundation fellowship. Luis completed his Ph.D. in Systems, Synthetic, and Quantitative Biology at Harvard in 2020, where he conducted his doctoral research in the lab of Aravinthan Samuel. During this time, he identified molecules, cells, and circuits that mediate thermal homeostasis in larval Drosophila. Prior to graduate school, he worked as an undergraduate and postbac researcher in Thierry Emonet’s lab at Yale University. Originally from Peru, Luis studied mechatronics engineering at the National University of Engineering before moving to the United States for further studies.
The Computer Science department emphasizes research potential. GRE General is currently optional but recommended for some tracks.
