Biography

Luis Sanchez has over 30 years of varied multi-disciplinary experience in transportation civil engineering, focusing on the design of roadways, infrastructure, transit and pedestrian facilities, and traffic impact environmental studies. In 2007, he was appointed as the Lower Manhattan Borough Commissioner, where he coordinated construction work on the streets near the World Trade Center site, ensuring proper collaboration among involved agencies and utilities during the reconstruction effort. His office is involved in several significant planning and design studies for Lower Manhattan. Before this role, he served as the Director of Street Reconstruction at the DOT Lower Manhattan Borough Commissioner's Office since December 2005, where he managed the FHWA WTC Emergency Relief Program and street reconstruction efforts. Sanchez began his career at Urbitran Associates, conducting traffic impact studies and creating street design documents. In 1985, he co-founded a full-service Architecture/Engineering firm in New Jersey, overseeing traffic civil engineering while managing business operations.
