Biography

Luis Velasco-Pufleau is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Music of the Université de Montréal, as well as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow at the Schulich School of Music, McGill University, and at the Institute of Musicology at the University of Bern. He is a musician and musicologist specializing in music of the 20th and 21st centuries, focusing on the political dimensions of human voices, musical practices, and acoustic memories. His research project ONTOMUSIC explores the ethical and political aspects of music in the 21st century, particularly the interactions between musical creation and contemporary political issues such as human rights, social justice, and political ecology. Currently, he is a research associate at the Canadian Research Chair in Music and Politics, studying the links between music and war propaganda in the 20th and 21st centuries. He is the editor of the research blog Music, Sound and Conflict and co-director of the journal Transposition, as well as an elected member of the Swiss Young Academy.
