Biography

Luis Yanez-Guerra is a Lecturer in Pharmacology at the University of Southampton, specializing in neuroscience and the evolution of the nervous system. His research interests include exploring non-bilaterian animals, receptor deorphanisation focusing on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), and understanding the origins and functions of neuropeptides in choanoflagellates. He is currently leading projects funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) that aim to reconstruct the evolution of monoamines in neurotransmission and trace the functional origins of neuropeptides in various organisms. He is actively involved in teaching neuroscience and receptor biology, accepting applications for PhD students supervised under his guidance. Yanez-Guerra has made significant contributions to research by participating in major funding initiatives and actively engaging in collaborative projects that seek to uncover the complexities of neurotransmission.
