Biography

Luisa Cortesi is an environmental anthropologist who studies water disasters, climate change, environmental knowledge, technologies, environmental justice, and sustainable development. She is currently an Assistant Professor focusing on these issues at the International Institute of Social Studies in the Netherlands. Her academic background includes a dual Ph.D. in Anthropology and Environmental Sciences from Yale University. Dr. Cortesi has also held significant fellowships such as being a Marie S. Taylor Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University, where she was associated with the Atkinson Centre of Sustainability. Her recognized body of work has earned several prestigious awards including the Field Prize for poetic literary scholarship and the Eric Wolf Prize from the Political Ecology Society. In addition, her research has been supported by various grants and fellowships from organizations such as the Wenner Gren Foundation and the American Institute of Indian Studies. She has a strong commitment to translating anthropological knowledge into action, particularly in the fields of sustainability and environmental justice.
