Luisa Escobar-Hoyos obtained her master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. Her research focuses on understanding somatic mutations and aberrant RNA processing in tumors, particularly pancreatic and lung cancers, with the aim of developing novel therapeutic strategies. Her work includes research on RNA splicing and its implications in cancer treatment, specifically targeting KRAS and p53 mutations. She has proposed a novel therapy called Splicing-Hit Oligonucleotide Therapy (SHOT), which aims to correct RNA splicing errors to selectively kill cancer cells. Collaborating with various laboratories, she seeks to develop efficient therapies that could ultimately lead to cures for aggressive malignancies.
