Biography

Luisa graduated with a Veterinary degree from the Federal Fluminense University, Brazil, in 2007 and completed her master’s and PhD studies on Clinical Research in Infectious Diseases at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Brazil, from 2009 to 2013. She developed her post-doctoral study at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, between 2013 and 2015, and was employed as a Research Fellow at Fiocruz in Brazil in 2017. Luisa has over ten years of experience in researching animal sporotrichosis, with a special emphasis on the immunological and pathological aspects. She actively collaborates with a pathologist referral centre for infectious disease surveillance at Fiocruz. Luisa joined the University of Sydney in 2020 as a lecturer in Veterinary Pathology, focusing on research subjects such as fungal diseases and host-pathogen interactions. Her work aligns with the Faculty of Science's research strengths in Healthy Animals, Preventing, and Treating Disease & Disorder. As a lecturer, she teaches various units, supervises DVM, Honours, Masters, and PhD students, and has ongoing and concluded research supervisions in related fields.
