Biography

Luise Cullen-McEwen is a Research Fellow in the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology at Monash University. She holds a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from the University of Wollongong and an Honours degree from Melbourne University. In 2002, she completed her PhD at Monash University, focusing on the role of Glial Cell Line-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in regulating ureteric branching morphogenesis during kidney development. She has extensive experience in animal handling, embryo dissection, embryonic kidney culture, whole mount immunofluorescence, and histology using unbiased stereology. Her work has contributed to understanding the effects of maternal diabetes on kidney development. Cullen-McEwen is actively involved in various research projects, including a primary role in investigating nephron deficits in premature offspring and the influence of maternal hyperglycemia on kidney development.
