Dr. Luiz Capretz

Biography

Luiz Fernando Capretz is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Western University. He has a vast experience in Software Engineering, particularly in areas such as Human Factors in Software Engineering, Generative AI Software Development, Software Testing, and Software Engineering Education. He has worked and taught in various countries including Canada, Brazil, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, and Malaysia since 1981. As the Director of the Software Engineering Program since 2011, he has also held administrative roles, including Assistant Dean for IT e-Learning in 2019. Capretz has spent sabbaticals and visiting positions at prestigious institutions, including New York University Abu Dhabi and the University of Technology PETRONAS. He joined Western University in 2000 and has served as the Director of Informatics at universities in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. He has published over 300 academic works in journals, conferences, patents, and books, and has been involved in venues sponsored by IEEE, ACM, Elsevier, Springer, and UNESCO. Additionally, he is an IEEE Senior Member and a certified Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada. Outside of work, he enjoys collecting antique maps, playing soccer in the Middlesex Masters Soccer League, and skiing in the winter.
