Lukas Hintermann focuses on the development of highly active selective catalysts for organic synthesis. His research interests include the use of these catalysts in both basic molecular research and industrial production, with the aim of achieving sustainable and efficient chemical synthesis while providing new materials using minimal resources. He studied chemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, where he obtained his doctorate from the university's Laboratory for Inorganic Chemistry in 2000. Following this, he was a JSPS fellow at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2001/2 and subsequently moved to RWTH Aachen, where he headed the Emmy Noether junior research group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) to achieve lecturer qualification in 2008. In the fall of 2009, he was appointed as an associate professor at Technische Universität München (TUM).
