Dr. Lukas Van Den Berge

Biography

Lukas van den Berge is an assistant professor at the Institute of Jurisprudence and the Department of Constitutional Administrative Law at Utrecht University. He earned his PhD from Utrecht University in 2016. His research interests focus on constitutional administrative law, legal philosophy, and law and humanities. He is an active lecturer at both bachelor’s and master’s levels and has been recognized for his teaching excellence. In 2022, students of Utrecht Law School designated him as the 'lecturer of the year', and in 2024, he received the title of Utrecht University's 'Honours Teacher of the Year'. In addition to his teaching duties, van den Berge has taken on leadership roles, such as being a board member of Utrecht Law College and serving as chair of Utrecht University's Central Electoral Office. His recent contributions include various publications addressing critical aspects of legal philosophies and contemporary legal issues, including the challenges of administrative law in the wake of recent societal events, such as the childcare allowance scandal in the Netherlands. He has presented a range of courses and is committed to advancing legal scholarship through his publications and public engagement.
