Lukasz Kotula is a plant scientist specializing in physiological and anatomical traits associated with plant adaptation to abiotic stresses. He completed his MSc in Biology at the University of Silesia, Poland, and obtained his PhD in Plant Physiology from the University of Bayreuth, Germany, in 2009. His research focused on rice root adaptations to waterlogging, developing a novel technique to measure oxygen permeability in roots. From 2010 to 2012, he continued his work as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Tokyo and Nagoya University as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellow, where he studied root anatomical responses to waterlogging. He has been with the University of Western Australia since 2012, initially as a Research Associate and later as a Research Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences. He has led several ARC-funded projects on legumes, cereals, and Australian native plants. His current research includes improving nitrogen use efficiency in canola crops under varying soil conditions. Dr. Kotula has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and is experienced in supervising postgraduate students.
