Dr. Łukasz Szulc

Biography

Łukasz Szulc is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Media Culture at the University of Manchester, with a specific focus on the critical cultural studies of digital media, particularly the intersections of gender, sexuality, and transnationalism. He specializes in researching dating apps and dating cultures, contributing to the understanding of how digital media influences societal norms. Łukasz has served on the board of directors for the International Communication Association and was the Co-Chair of ICA’s LGBTQ Studies interest group from 2017 to 2021. His research has garnered multiple awards from organizations such as the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies and the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies. He has delivered keynote talks at prestigious institutions, including Harvard University and the University of British Columbia. Łukasz has published extensively and serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals. His teaching experience spans over a decade, during which he has developed new BA and MA programs in Digital Media, Culture, and Society. His commitment to public engagement includes writing blogs and being featured in various media outlets. Łukasz’s research is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and he addresses pressing social issues through his academic work.
