Professor Dr. Luke Doherty

Biography

Luke Doherty is a Departmental Lecturer at the University of Oxford, specializing in High Speed Flows. He received his Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Queensland, Australia, in 2008. After completing his doctorate at the University Centre for Hypersonics, he joined the Oxford Thermofluids Institute in 2014 as a post-doctoral researcher. In 2018, he became a Senior Researcher, focusing on the development and management of unique high-speed experimental research facilities. His research emphasizes aerodynamic force measurements, magnetic suspension balance systems, and rarefied flows related to satellite re-entry. He has been a principal investigator and co-investigator on numerous high-profile projects, receiving funding from the EPSRC and the Royal Society. He is also actively involved in teaching several courses related to fluid mechanics and hypersonic research. Luke is a member of the AIAA and has published extensively in the field of hypersonic aerodynamics, contributing to key studies and conferences.
