Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Luke Formosa. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Luke is an NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellow at the Monash Biomedical Discovery Institute. He completed his PhD in 2016 and has conducted postdoctoral research in the lab of Professor Mike Ryan. His research primarily focuses on studying the proteins involved in assembling the electron transport chain in mitochondria. Luke's work aims to uncover the mechanisms underlying mitochondrial diseases caused by defects in this process. He has identified new proteins related to electron transport chain function and re-evaluated the roles of known mitochondrial proteins, characterizing genetic factors that contribute to mitochondrial disease. In 2023, Luke became a Group Leader at BDI and continues to pursue research interests in understanding how changes in mitochondrial function affect metabolism. Specifically, he is passionate about identifying novel components involved in electron transport chain function and exploring how mitochondrial metabolism is rewired in response to altered mitochondrial function. His expertise relates to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on health and well-being.
