Dr. Luke Kelly

Biography

Luke Kelly is a Lecturer at the Humanitarian Conflict Response Institute at the University of Manchester. His research primarily focuses on the history of humanitarian aid. Luke's doctoral thesis examined the efforts of various actors including churches, charities, and journalists in promoting humanitarian initiatives in late-tsarist and early communist Russia. Through his work, he has explored how Christianity and liberalism have influenced humanitarian engagements. He has been involved in various research projects, including studies on child migration within the British Empire and the history of British charities. In addition to his research, Luke teaches courses on humanitarian aid history and related topics at the university level.
